How to use it
- 1Enter your WiFi network name (SSID) exactly as it appears on your router.
- 2Enter the password and choose the security type (WPA/WPA2 for almost every home router).
- 3Pick the sign size and language.
- 4Print the sign and test the QR code with your own phone before guests arrive.
How a WiFi QR code works
The QR code stores your network name, password and security type in a standard format (WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;). iPhones (iOS 11 and later) and Android phones read it with the normal camera app and offer to join the network. Nothing goes through the internet: the code works even before the guest is online.
Tips for hosts
- Use a guest network if your router has one, so guests never see your own devices.
- Avoid passwords that are easy to mistype (0/O, l/1); with a QR code most guests won't type it, but some will.
- Print the password too, under the code, for laptops and older phones.
- Put the sign where guests look first: on the fridge, by the router or on the entry table.
- Change the password now and then and print a new sign.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to put my WiFi password in a QR code?
It's as safe as printing the password on a card: anyone who can see the sign can join. Use a separate guest network so visitors can't reach your own devices. This tool creates the code in your browser and never uploads your password.
Do WiFi QR codes work on iPhone?
Yes. iPhones with iOS 11 or later read WiFi QR codes with the built-in camera and show a 'Join network' prompt. Android phones do the same in the camera or the WiFi settings.
My network has no password. Can I still make a code?
Yes: choose 'No password' as the security type. Guests will join an open network when they scan it.
