Fire escape plan for your rental

Guests don't know your home. Put a clear escape plan on the back of the door: upload your floor plan, place the exits, the fire extinguisher, the first aid kit and the shut-offs, and print it with the local emergency number in your guests' language.

How to use it

  1. 1Upload a photo of your floor plan, or a clear drawing of it.
  2. 2Choose a symbol and tap the plan to place it: you are here, exits, extinguishers, smoke alarms, first aid, shut-offs.
  3. 3Add the meeting point outside and check the emergency number for your country.
  4. 4Print the plan and hang it where guests see it: on the back of the entrance door or next to the bedroom doors.

What a good escape plan shows

  • You are here, so the plan makes sense at a glance.
  • Every way out: the front door and any other exit, such as a balcony with stairs or a back door.
  • Fire equipment: extinguishers, fire blankets and smoke alarms.
  • First aid kit and the shut-offs for gas, water and electricity.
  • A meeting point outside, so everyone knows where to count heads.
  • The emergency number, large and on top: guests from abroad often don't know it.

Where to put it

On the back of the entrance door, in the hallway, or next to each bedroom door in a larger house. Keep a copy in your welcome book and mention the safety equipment in your listing.

Check your local rules

Some regions and cities require evacuation plans, extinguishers or specific safety signs in holiday rentals, sometimes in a set format. This plan is a clear starting point, not a certificate: check the rules where your rental is.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a fire escape plan in my vacation rental?

It depends on where your rental is: some local rules require an evacuation plan or posted safety information, others don't. Either way, a clear plan helps guests who don't know your home find the way out quickly.

What should a fire escape plan include?

A floor plan with "you are here", every exit, the fire extinguisher, smoke alarms, the first aid kit, the gas, water and power shut-offs, a meeting point outside and the local emergency number.

Where should I hang the escape plan?

Where guests see it without looking for it: the back of the entrance door, the hallway or next to the bedroom doors.

Is my floor plan uploaded?

No. The image is resized in your browser and stays on your device; your plan is saved in this browser only.
