How much does a domain name cost in 2026?
A normal domain costs between about $5 and $25 a year. The price depends on the extension, on the registrar's margin and, above all, on the renewal after a cheap first year. Here are real prices from three registrars, checked on 25 October 2026, and the costs that don't appear in the headline price. For a vacation rental there is a way to pay nothing for the domain: Stayveo includes your domain, the hosting and your booking website for $9 a month.

The short answer
- .com: about $10.50 to $11 a year at registrars that sell at or near cost, and $15 to $25 a year at many big-brand registrars and website builders after the first year.
- Most European country domains (.de, .es, .fr, .it, .nl, .eu): about €4 to €8 a year.
- First-year deals can be $1, but the renewal is what you pay every year after.
- Premium names, which registries or resellers price individually, cost from about a hundred to many thousands a year.
- Included in a website plan: $0 for the domain. Stayveo costs $9 a month and includes your domain, the hosting and your booking website; you pay only the subscription.
From 1 November 2026 the registry that runs .com (Verisign) charges registrars $10.97 a year instead of $10.26, so a .com sold at cost becomes about $11.17 with the $0.20 ICANN fee.

Prices for a one-year registration, read on each registrar's price list on 25 October 2026 (Cloudflare through its published at-cost list). Promotions change often, and taxes are added where they apply.
A few country domains are expensive at most resellers: .hr (Croatia) costs €259.99 for the first year at OVHcloud, .ro (Romania) €41.99, .dk (Denmark) €19.49. Greek .gr domains are registered for two years at a time.
Why the same domain costs $1 in one shop and $25 in another
- The registry's price is the floor. Every registrar pays it for every name, every year: $10.26 for a .com today, $10.97 from 1 November 2026, plus $0.20 to ICANN.
- The registrar's margin comes on top. Some sell at cost and earn on other services; others add $5 to $15 a year.
- First-year deals sell the first year below cost (a $1 .com, for example) and recover it with a renewal at the full list price. The renewal price is the one that counts, because you pay it every year after.
- Bundles: a domain included with hosting or a website plan isn't free; its cost is inside the plan.
Other costs you may see
- WHOIS privacy: free at most registrars today, and the public records of most domains no longer show owners' personal details anyway.
- DNS and HTTPS: free with almost every registrar and website service.
- E-mail: forwarding to your existing inbox is often free; a real mailbox costs from about $1 to $7 per person a month. More in e-mail on your own domain.
- Transfers: moving a domain to another registrar usually costs one year's renewal, which is added to the domain.
- Restoring an expired domain: if you miss the renewal, getting the domain back in the grace period can cost much more than the renewal itself. Keep auto-renew on, or a reminder.
Premium domains
Short, common words (beach.com, villas.it) are almost all taken. Those still for sale are premium: priced individually by the registry or by the person who owns them, from about a hundred to many thousands a year, sometimes with a premium renewal too. A normal domain with your rental's name and town, such as casasolelecce.com, costs the normal price.
How to pay less for a domain
- Compare renewal prices, not first-year prices.
- Pick your country's own extension if your guests are mostly local: most cost less than a .com.
- Register for several years only at a registrar whose renewal price you like: you pay today's price for all the years.
- Skip extras you don't need, such as paid privacy or "SEO" add-ons.
- Use a domain that is included in a service you already pay for. With Stayveo, vacation rental hosts pay only the subscription ($9 a month) and get the domain, the hosting and the booking website; the domain is renewed free every year. Find your free domain.
What a vacation rental host needs
One domain is enough for a booking website, even with several properties: the site shows them all. A .com or your country's extension is the usual choice; the name of your place, with your town if needed, makes it easy for returning guests to find you. If you need ideas, the name and domain generator suggests names and shows which domains are still free.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a .com domain per year?
About $10.50 to $11 a year at registrars that sell at cost (Cloudflare charges $10.46 until 1 November 2026, then about $11.17) and $15 to $25 a year at many big-brand registrars and website builders after the first year.
Why did my domain renewal cost more than the first year?
Many registrars sell the first year below cost to win the customer and charge their full list price for every renewal. Compare renewal prices before you buy, and move the domain if the renewal is too high (after its first 60 days).
Can I pay for a domain monthly?
Registrars charge by the year. Website builders and services that include a domain spread its cost over their monthly price; Stayveo includes a domain in every plan, monthly ones too.
Is a cheaper extension worse for Google?
No. Google treats .com, country extensions and the newer generic extensions alike for ranking. A country extension can help guests from that country see you as local; choose what is short and easy to remember.
Can I buy a domain forever?
No. Domains are rented for one to ten years at a time and renewed. You can pay up to ten years in advance at most registrars, at today's price.
How much does a domain cost in euros?
Most European country domains cost about €4 to €8 a year (.de, .es, .fr, .it, .nl, .eu at OVHcloud, before VAT), and a .com about €8 to €15. A few, such as .hr or .ro, cost much more at most resellers.
